The whole of human and cosmic existence is embedded in an orderly dynamic in which conflicting forces are at play. At its foundation lies the chaotic Dionysian, representing the deepest and richest aspects of our nature - the source of our myths, passions and instincts, and the state in which the self gives way to a collective primal unity. At its surface, the civilising force of the Apollonian emerges, imposing order and stability and offering rational distance to strive and advance as an individual. Although these forces are diametrically opposed, they are intimately intertwined: without the Apollonian, our existence lacks form and structure, and without the Dionysian, it lacks vitality and passion. Through my work I seek to synthesise these conflicting modes of expression and through their interplay, create tensions and harmonies that become meaningful as experiences of a unified psyche.
